Job Description:
The Advanced Power Group at National Semiconductor develops novel system level power management solutions that drastically improve system efficiency. Our products incorporate state of the art power electronics topologies and techniques as well as system communication and awareness.
We are currently looking for an experienced, talented Applications Engineer who will be involved with product definition, development, and support.
This role will require a strong technical knowledge of all aspects of DC-DC converters and various switcher topologies (buck, boost, buck-boost, etc), control loop theory, and control methodologies (voltage mode, current mode, COT, etc). Excellent technical insight will be the basis for defining next generation power products.
The successful candidate will have a sound understanding of system-level power design, including active and passive component properties and selection, thermal management, EMI, and PCB layout. Experience in power management for digital loads such as ASICs and FPGAs is desired.
Additionally, the candidate must have excellent hands-on lab skills using scopes, electronic loads, network analyzers, and other basic test equipment. You should also possess a proven ability in the area of PCB layout pertaining to power ICs. Experience with Altium schematic capture and layout software is a plus.
Ideally, you should have customer facing experience. The application engineer must be able to effectively communicate with customers, as well as with product development, sales, and marketing teams. Experience writing technical papers and presentations is a plus.
Other relevant work experience with Matlab, communication protocols (I2C, SPI), programming languages, and PSpice small signal modeling of switchers is a plus.
Some travel will be required for this position.
Requirements:
BSEE with at least 7 years of DC/DC power, and 4 years of applications experience
MSEE or PhD with at least 5 years of DC/DC power, and 3 years of applications experience. Experience in the semiconductor industry with power management products is preferable.
